The partnership with Save the Children

Lavazza has been working with Save the Children for more than 15 years. With donations totalling 3 million Euros, Lavazza has supported projects in India, the Ivory Coast and Myanmar, and assisted emergency interventions in Emilia Romagna and Nepal. During these years, the company has worked alongside Save the Children on two important projects.

Fighting malnutrition through the 1,000-day approach
Lavazza and Save the Children collaborated on an initiative aimed at fighting child mortality in Calcutta, through the prevention and treatment of malnutrition. The main focus was on the first 1,000 days of children’s lives: a crucial time span in which vital functions, as well as motor and cognitive faculties, develop. The project allowed for the involvement of:
    • 14,173

      minors

    • 60

      teachers

    • 5,719

      pregnant or breastfeeding women

    • 388

      healthcare professionals

Offering new life prospects for teenagers from the slums
There are many teenagers in Calcutta who live in slums, unhealthy urban districts, that lack the most basic sanitation and sanitary facilities. Lavazza and Save the Children have committed themselves to creating opportunities for the most marginalised adolescents from degraded areas, saving them from conditions of abuse and exploitation, with the aim of introducing them into the world of employment in a sustainable way. The project has allowed us to reach more than 101 vulnerable adolescents and provide 240 hours of training and subsequent follow-up employment support.
In 2016, Lavazza and Save the Children further deepened their ties through their shared work on the Children’s Rights and Business Principles: these guidelines support companies in their efforts to respect and promote children's rights.
Lavazza has decided to go beyond the traditional relationship between NGOs and donors, working with Save the Children to create a shared, ongoing commitment capable of developing a long-term social sustainability project, also through the implementation of sustainability best practices within the company.
