We think of the online world as a weightless formation of our data, but in reality everything we do online is only possible thanks to an enormous and complex system of our devices, Wi-Fi routers, local telecom networks and data centres - all of which use a lot of electricity. Sadly, the majority of this network is still powered by burning fossil fuels and thus polluting the environment and contributing to climate change.
When we think of the destructive causes of climate change, ordering coffee online probably doesn’t come to mind as a contributing factor. But with the colossal number of data centres and the ever-increasing number of internet users and our devices, the digital world has become harmful to the planet, more so than the entire aviation industry before the pandemic.
The lighter we make our website, the less data our visitors need to download when visiting our website, and therefore the less polluting it is.
We are investigating ways to make our website as efficient as possible to minimise its environmental impact and make the experience of visiting the website better for our customers.
We are committed to improve our website and make it low-carbon as part of our Sustainability Plan.
Since 2020, the Lavazza Group is working to become a carbon neutral company. We are working to achieve this by reducing emissions throughout the entire value chain and offsetting all our direct and indirect CO2 emissions as part of our Roadmap to Zero strategy and our commitment to sustainability, Blend for Better.
